Is your camp going green for 2007?

Green is in, it is hip, it is the right thing to do and it is the theme for Burning Man 2007. So, what is your camp doing to green the burn? Picking up MOOP is one thing, but we need to go the extra mile, biodiesel, solar, wind, hamsters in a generated habitrail? Hell, we don’t care, just as long as you don’t burn the fossil fuels for anything but a big ass pyrotechnic fire! It is Burning Man after all. We are trying to reduce the carbon footprint for an event that well, just isn’t that green to begin with. But we aren’t going to stop our burning so we might as well improve how we do it. There are so many ways to green the burn and so many organizations ready to help you do it. Just to name a few Bently Biofuels came out strong and supplied the playa with over 3,350 gallons of biodiesel. They provided 300 gallon tanks delivered to your camp and 5 gallon totes for the personal consumer. Burning Man itself ran their staff commissary, the greeters stations and the man itself purely on biodiesel. In fact, Entheon Village, Ohi Bureau, DisOrient and Hookahdome all burned biodiesel this year.
Greening the Burn is a movement that started years ago and has spawned two major efforts from it’s creation. The Burn Clean Project is one of the most proactive sources of information and action for greening the burn, these folks have been doing it for years. The Evolutionary Center Did everything from helping 16 tons of wood get recycled through Habitat for Humanity to raising consciousness in general through classes offered on the playa. My god, their web site is even solar powered, who can say that… Well, I guess they can.
For 2006, humble little Playa Love burned biodiesel and had our all electric surrey raising dust all over the playa. We even had a solar powered radio, it just didn’t do night time so well… Never mind that, get out that thinking cap, use radiated desert rocks (there are few out there) and get that alternative fuel going. Let’s hear what the Burning Man community has in mind for 2007.
